Leaving Cert Irish
Leaving Cert Irish is designed to assess students’ proficiency in the Irish language across speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The course also highlights the importance of preserving and promoting Irish language and culture. Students are expected to build fluency, analyze texts, and express themselves confidently in both oral and written Irish.
Key Components:
Language Competence: Students develop a strong grasp of Irish, focusing on grammar, vocabulary, and overall fluency.
Literature: The syllabus includes both prose and poetry by Irish writers. Students analyze themes, style, and literary techniques while exploring the works of notable Irish authors and poets.
Comprehension: Students are assessed on their ability to understand and evaluate texts in Irish, such as newspaper articles, essays, and literary extracts.
Oral Proficiency: The oral exam tests students’ spoken Irish, requiring them to discuss a range of topics—from literature and current affairs to personal interests—with the examiner.
